Free radicals are deliberately made by the cells of our immune system to destroy bacteria and viruses. But their levels can be increased by unhealthy lifestyles and diet, and it is then that they become a threat to our health.  Anti-Oxidants protect the body against the effects of oxidation, and help neutralise any excess of free radicals in the body.

The antioxidant defence system limits free radicals from:

•   Damaging cholesterol carrying particles, known as low-density lipoprotein or "bad" LDL cholesterol.
•   Contributing to the formation of blood clots (thrombosis), which can in turn increase the risk of heart attack or stroke over time.

TIANTIAN IS RICH IN PHYTONUTRIENTS
Phytonutrients are naturally occurring plant compounds, which are structurally similar to human Oestrogen. Oestrogens are hormones that our bodies make and require for normal growth and development and to maintain good adult health in men and women. Oestrogens are essential for the female reproductive systems, but are also important for the bones, the heart and the brain. Phytonutrients also serve as anti-oxidants, which play an important role within promoting general health.


Populations lacking in sufficient dietary Phytonutrients have been scientifically shown to be more susceptible to a number of health problems such as cardiovascular disease and cancers than populations, primarily from the East, that have a diet rich in them. TIANTIAN IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE
Soy protein, like animal protein, contains all the essential amino acids in sufficient quantities to support human life. However, in Asian populations where soy is a dietary staple the incidence of coronary heart disease and heart attacks is lower than countries such as the United States. Experiments have shown soy protein and its Isoflavones, to be frequently linked to the reduction of cardiovascular disease and the risk factors associated with the disease such as cholesterol.
The evidence for soy protein to promote heart health has convinced organisation such as the British and American Heart Association to encourage the consumption of soy as part of a healthy diet low in saturated and cholesterol and has lead to the following clinical statements.
In 2002 the Joint Health Claims Initiative (A United Kingdom government body) authorised the use of the claim that the inclusion of at least 25 grams of soy protein per day as part of a diet low in saturated fats can help reduce blood cholesterol. Products carrying the claim must contain a minimum of 5 grams of soy protein and relates only to soy protein that has retained its naturally occurring Isoflavones.

Epidemiological studies have shown a significant difference in cancer incidence among different ethnic groups (higher in Western countries such as USA and UK compared with Asian countries like Japan and China). It is believed that this is partly due to differences in dietary habit, in particular the protective role provided through soy intake.
Clinical trials have produced encouraging results indicating that higher intakes of PhytoOestrogens, particularly Isoflavones, have been associated with a reduction in the risk of developing breast cancer, endometrial cancer, prostate cancer and stomach cancer.

 Lutein is found primarily in red, yellow, orange and green fruits and vegetables.Unfortunately in today's busy world we do not eat enough of either and because of modern farming methods those few that we do, contain insufficient nutrients. One of Lutein's primary functions is to provide protection against oxidative and free radical damage. The highest concentrations of Lutein are found within the ocular tissue (the eye) but it is also found in the skin, breast and cervical tissues. Levels of Lutein in the body are entirely controlled by dietary choice.
Lutein in the body is highly valued as –

•   It protects against FREE RADICAL damage of the retina, which causes AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION (AMD). AMD is the leading cause of irreversible blindness amongst adults. Lutein is most consistently associated with a lower risk of cataract. (High intakes of Lutein have been linked to a 19% decrease in cataract risk for men and a 22% risk decrease in women.).
•   There is a strong suggestion that it benefits the heart.
•   There are links between Lutein consumption and the prevention of certain cancers (stomach, oesophagus, lung, oral cavity and pharynx, endometrium, pancreas and colon).
•   Associations have been found between individuals with the highest intake of Lutein levels and lower rates of coronary heart disease or stroke.
•   Lutein may counteract and prevent UVR-induced photo-damage and erythema (inflammation of the skin).

TIANTIAN AS PART OF A CALORIE CONTROLLED DIET

TianTian is low in Fat and Carbohydrates whilst high in Protein. A tall glass of 250ml has only 32.25 kcal, which is extremely low by any measure. Therefore TianTian is an ideal complement to a calorie-controlled diet. However, as a marketing tool we have kept away from the weight reduction aspect of the TianTian, as we believe it is more important as an all round health drink and do not want it to be considered solely as a slimming drink.
